Bob Turley '67....Section III Wrestling inducted Bob Turley into its Hall of Fame. Mr. Turley, Ilion's athletic director, was inducted along with former Whitesboro coach Jerry LaMonica. Bob and Jerry became the 35th and 36th inductees joining an impressive list of coaches in the wrestling hall. The Golden Bombers won almost 75 percent of their matches during the 22 years that Bob was their wrestling coach. He led Ilion to one Class B championship, 12 league titles, and had two wrestlers achieve 100 wins in their career (Jeff Noll and Tim Hyer). He finished with 208 career wins. Seven Golden Bombers reached the Section III finals under his direction with Tim Hyer advancing to the state meet in 1977 and 78. Current Ilion wrestling coach, Bob Bush, presented Mr. Turley with the plaque honoring his achievements. (Feb 26, 2001)
Charles "Boots" Day '65....Former major league outfielder Charles "Boots" Day returns for his second season as the Redbirds hitting instructor and first base coach for the Memphis Redbirds. (June 10, 2001)

Alumni Reunion Baseball GameFormer Ilion Varsity baseball coach, Pete DeJoseph, announced that a reunion of the 1985 Ilion Baseball Team will be held at the annual Alumni game, May 20th. In 1985, Mr. DeJospeh's team went on to play in the state finals. Ilion's Former Athletic Director, Mr. Nick Pannes, didn't recall any other Ilion team ever going on to a state championship! All alumni are invited to attend this reunion game to honor the outstanding players who were on the 1985 baseball team. (April 24, 2000)

Bomber breaks Mohawk Valley Country Club RecordIHS graduate, Jeff Kowalczik '96, a member and employee at Mohawk Valley Country Club, broke the club record on July 21. Jeff shot 64, to break the record - 65, held by Wayne Levi. Jeff has been a member of the club for at least 10 years and has been an employee for the last six years. He's entering his senior year at LeMoyne College and will be a member of the LeMoyne golf team. Jeff is the son of John and Sharon Losier Kowalczik '68. (July 30, 1999)

Chris Getman placed 34th in BoilermakerFormer Ilionite, Stephen 'Chris' Getman '92, placed 34th overall, in 48:46, in this year's The Boilermaker 15k Road Race! His younger brothers, Nate, Kevin and Michael Getman '95, joined Chris in race. Search out their results on the Boilermaker Results database. (July 14, 1999)
Ilionites Running in the 1999 Boilermaker 15k Road RaceFormer Ilionite, Stephen 'Chris' Getman '92, age 24, now living in Ithaca, NY, ran the 2nd fastest time of any local man in the 1998 Boilermaker, behind Utica native Peter Pazik of Wallingford, Conn. Pazik ranked 38th, in 48:17, in the '98 Boilermaker. Chris also won Utica's Summer Sizzle 5-Mile Run on June 27, of this year, in a 26:07 win.In January, he ran his first marathon (see below related article) in Houston. This May, Chris finished 15th in Philadelphia's Broad Street 10-Mile Run (51:22). Chris works for an architectural firm in Ithaca, NY. Good Luck Chris and other runners! 'Nostalgia Game' hosted by Ilion Baseball TeamIlion High School hosted a varsity baseball game at the South Fifth Avenue Field. Ilion played Mohawk High school for the 'Nostalgia Game'. Coach Dave Appleton may try to make it an annual event so that the kids can "... experience it, the way baseball used to be played here, and to play where Boots Day [the former major leaguer from Ilion] used to play." Coach McCann gets 100th win!....Bob McCann '74, Girls' Varsity Basketball Coach, notched up his 100th win on December 18, 1998, when the team beat Sauquoit Valley 57-29. This is Bob's seventh year as the coach for the team. The Bombers are now 3-0 in the CSC, 5-2 overall. Mr. McCann is now 100-31 for his career. The team celebrated by consuming cupcakes prepared by the Peter Donahue ('66) family. (December 20, 1998)
1999 Boys Volleyball Schedule and other information....Schedule, roster and other information provided by Dave Williams '70. The 1997-98 boys' volleyball team was the first group to be commemorated on the village's "Wall of Fame". A plaque with its photo was dedicated at a ceremony November 27, 1998. The 11-by-13inch wood plaque will hang near the stage at the Ilion Municpal Building. The 1997-98 team won the Section III title and was ranked No. 1 in the state by New York state sportswriters.
